Kelsey Mascarell, Director of Operations for University Diagnostic Institute under Dr. Stanley, joins them to talk about the differences in cost between inpatient and outpatient facilities. The number of radiologist-owned medical imaging centers in Central Florida is shrinking due to consolidation and buyouts from hospital systems. One such center, operated by a radiologist in Orlando, specializes in breast cancer awareness month. Clinic reduced its self-paced price for mammograms according to the American Cancer Society's recommendation that more than 250,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The survival rate and prognosis for breast cancer is good. Dr. Mark Chaet recommends a combination of mammography and ultrasound if ordered by primary care physicians. About 20% of women in the age group of 50 to 74 do not get their recommended mammograms, which can lead to delayed diagnosis and treatment. The most common referrals for imaging are CTs for pain in the spine and MRIs for spinal cord compression. In general, people don't get CTs often, so the benefits outweigh the risks. Dr. Mark Chaet also discusses employer-sponsored direct primary care programs that offer three primary care doctors at $80 per month per member to see them. Disney had a successful program, but now employers tie their plans down to big hospital systems with an average 20% increase in premiums every year. Virtual care is becoming more common, including telehealth and longer appointments. The DPC program has been in place since 2020, with employers who have been in the program for a year reducing their premiums by an average of 15%. If employers can afford to cut benefits or raise out-of-pocket costs for employees, it makes sense. Mr. Rosen has enough employees to make a difference.
